When Donald Trump said that “America is back” in his first speech to a joint session of Congress after regaining power, he immediately ran afoul of Democratic members as he pushed his ambitious social and economic agenda. The “American dream is unstoppable,” he declared. Republican Party members enthusiastically applauded his words, especially when he addressed Elon Musk, who stood up to thank the Congress. Representative Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, yelled that the president lacked a mandate shortly after Mr. Trump started speaking. For interfering with Trump’s address, House Speaker Mike Johnson gave the House Sergeant of Arms the order to dismiss Rep. Al Green. Green and the Sergeant of Arms left.
Biden is referred to by Trump as “the worst president.”
From his very first remarks, Mr. Trump created a polarizing atmosphere by accusing his predecessor, Joe Biden, of being the worst president in history and criticizing Democrats for being so slack in their admiration of him that they would not even give him a token round of applause. Mr. Trump promised to lower prices for things like eggs, but he kept the burden on the previous administration. Mr. Trump claimed that Joe Biden in particular allowed the price of eggs to skyrocket. Additionally, Mr. Trump said that Mr. Biden had left him issues from the previous administration.
America’s golden age
Amid cries of “USA! USA!” Mr. Trump opened his remarks by reflecting on the first 43 days of his presidency. He restated his ambition for bringing the country into a new age as he wrapped up his speech. After speaking to Congress for about an hour, he concluded by saying, “America’s golden age has only just begun.” Male and female are the only two genders. Mr. Trump also discussed an order that would limit the government to recognizing only two genders—male and female—as well as a ban on men playing women’s sports, which would target transgender athletes in particular. Mr. Trump declared, “I want Congress to pass a bill that criminalizes and permanently bans sex changes on children and puts an end to the myth that any child is trapped in the wrong body.”
Though he provided few specifics, the president pushed Congress to restrict gender-affirming procedures done on adolescents during his speech. In the meantime, there have already been legal challenges to some of Mr. Trump’s unilateral orders.
Commencing April 2, reciprocal duties are imposed on China and India.
Mr. Trump called the high tariffs imposed by China, India, and other nations “very unfair” and declared that reciprocal tariffs will begin to be applied next month. The president stated in his speech that the reciprocal tariffs will go into effect on April 2. It’s time for us to start utilizing tariffs against the nations that have been using them against us for decades. On average, we pay far higher tariffs than the European Union, China, Brazil, India, Mexico, Canada, and countless other countries. Do you know who they are? It’s incredibly unjust,” Mr. Trump declared. He went on to say, “India charges us auto tariffs higher than 100%.”
Trump on the situation in Ukraine
Mr. Trump has been unreserved in his criticism of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine. However, Mr. Trump read from a letter he had received earlier in the day from Zelenskyy toward the close of his speech. According to the letter, Ukraine is prepared to begin negotiations as soon as possible in order to move closer to a permanent settlement, Mr. Trump stated.
