The Hanna-Barbera character “Space Ghost,” voiced by American voice actor George Lowe in “Space Ghost Coast to Coast,” passed away at the age of 67. Lowe passed away on Sunday due to health issues. His old buddy “Marvelous” Marvin Boone posted the news of his death on Facebook. “I am completely heartbroken. After a protracted illness, George Lowe, my Zobanian brother and dearest friend of more than 40 years, passed away. I had also lost a piece of myself. He was an exceptionally gifted voice actor and artist. A genuine genius with a big heart. The world’s funniest man, too. I’ve been stealing his jokes for decades. He took a few of mine. George Lowe was who?
Born in 1957, George Lowe started his career in the 1980s, doing voiceover work on occasion at first. When he was chosen to be the voice of “Space Ghost” for “Space Ghost Coast to Coast,” it was his big break. Over 100 episodes were produced throughout the show’s more than ten-year run. Later, Lowe increased his visibility on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, an adult-oriented programming block, by doing voice acting for characters in a number of other popular series, including as Robot Chicken, Sealab 2021, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show, Squidbillies, and 12 Oz. Mouse. In addition, he provided the voice of characters in The Grinch, Celebrity Deathmatch, American Dad, and other films.
Contributing writer MC Chris of “Space Ghost Coast to Coast” disclosed in July 2023 that Lowe had undergone two intubations due to an aortic dissection. According to TV Line, Lowe was being cared after by a nurse at his Florida residence at the time.
